USB HDD Cradles and Windows 10 - Disappearing Resolved

USB 3.0 HDD cradles from vendors such as WavLink and StarTech allow for easy connection of a hard drive to the computer through the USB port. This can be very helpful for copying large amounts of data, such as for making copy of backups from Veeam to a drive, and then taking those drives offsite for safe-keeping.

These cradles work great on Windows 7, but there was a problem using these with Windows 10. After a bit of time, the drive would disappear and the cradle was no longer recognized.

Tried adjusting the power management of the USB device to no avail. It would still disappear from the computer and File Explorer.

The issue was resolved by going into the advanced settings of the Power and Sleep Settings of Windows 10 and turning off the value for Hard Disk - Turn Off Hard Disk After xx Minutes.

The cradles are now able to stay connected and no longer disappear.
